The sooner you can introduce your child to great oral hygiene habits and the dental environment, the better. Habits developed early on in life tend to stick. At Dental on York, we are experienced in kids dentistry. Our team loves welcoming the littlest of patients into our practice and supporting their parents through all their exciting dental milestones.
Our experienced family dentists recommend bringing your child in for their first visit when they get their first tooth. Regular dental check-ups thereafter are essential for your growing child.
They allow our dentists to track their dental development and detect any potential issues before they turn into major problems. Regular dental check-ups for children also help to familiarise them with the dental environment and helps them discover that their dentist is someone they can trust.
Our gentle children’s dentists are here to provide you with quality kids dentistry. Our aim is to help you ensure your child gets the best possible start to a life of healthy teeth and gums.
“Why do baby teeth matter if they just fall out eventually anyways?”. We get asked this question often at our Sydney dental practice. The fact is, baby teeth, regardless of their performance, really DO matter. Here’s a few reasons why:
Baby teeth act as space savers for the adult teeth that will eventually replace them. Primary teeth do eventually fall out, when the time is right. But, lost before their time as a result of decay or other damage, allows for adjacent teeth to drift or lean into that otherwise reserved space. This can cause alignment and position issues when it’s time for the permanent, adult tooth to come through.
Your child needs their baby teeth for both their speech and facial development. Baby teeth allow for the formation of correct pronunciation and also provide support for developing facial muscles that helps shape your child’s face.
Permanent teeth develop very close to the roots of primary teeth. As such, baby teeth that are in poor health can affect the development of healthy adult teeth underneath them.
Your child need their teeth for chewing, ofcourse. Discomfort from cavities can result in nutritional deficiencies. Cavities left untreated can lead to infection which can affect other areas in the body and can develop into an emergency situation quickly.
Dental discomfort in any form can affect your child’s ability to concentrate and, therefore, hinder their learning in school. Similarly, decayed teeth can lead to low levels of self-esteem and have a negative impact on their social interactions. Baby teeth are important and appropriate dental care can significantly improve your child’s life, now and in the future. We’re the dental practice families trust with their kids dentistry.
