What can a smile makeover do?

We’re not all born with perfect smiles. In fact, it is almost impossible to have a naturally perfect smile. At Dental on York, we want our patients to love their smiles and to feel confident showing off their teeth. A smile transformation can achieve this. Using cosmetic dentistry we can enhance the appearance of your natural smile. Our dentists have lots of experience with cosmetic dentistry and have helped countless patients achieve their smile goals.

What’s involved in a smile makeover?

When you come to Dental on York for a smile makeover you can be sure you’ll receive top quality advice and treatment. We start with a consultation where we listen to your concerns and create a personalised treatment plan. We discuss each treatment option in detail so you can confidently decide what’s right for you. Here are some of the dental treatments we offer which can transform your smile:

Teeth whitening

The enamel on our teeth often becomes discoloured over time, it is a natural process. With teeth whitening, you can easily get brighter whiter teeth in no time. That is why it’s become such a popular treatment. At Dental on York, we offer two types of teeth whitening. At-home and in-chair.

If you decide to whiten your teeth from the comfort of your couch, we’ll make you a custom take-home whitening kit. We usually recommend spending an hour or so each day using your kit, and within a few weeks, you’ll have whiter teeth. You can do little touch-ups here and there when needed.

In-chair teeth whitening takes around one hour. It involves sitting in the dentist’s chair with a special whitening agent on your teeth. We activate the whitening agent under a special light or laser. You’ll leave with pearly white teeth.

Dental veneers

Veneers are another popular dental treatment because they can completely transform your smile. Veneers can be used to improve the appearance of the shape, alignment, size or colour of your teeth. They are thin porcelain covers that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth giving you a beautiful, symmetrical and natural-looking smile.

Your teeth can be straightened at any age using orthodontics. At Dental on York, we offer both braces and Invisalign. Both of these treatment options can solve overcrowding, gaps, crooked teeth and misalignment. Braces consist of porcelain or metal brackets and wires which are attached to your teeth. They are periodically tightened over the course of your treatment. The length of time varies depending on the specific case.

Invisalign is a discrete treatment option using removable clear aligners. These aligners are custom made and switched out every two weeks as your teeth move. It’s recommended that you wear your trays at all times except when eating and drinking. Again, the length of time depends on your specific case.

Dental implants

If you want a permanent solution to missing teeth then dental implants may be your answer. The procedure for receiving dental implants may take a few months, though many clients claim the treatment to be life-changing and worth the wait. First, a titanium screw is fixed into your jaw, this creates a strong base. Once the surgical insertion site is healed and the screw has knitted with the bone and tissue around it, a custom made prosthetic tooth is attached to the screw. This leaves you with a natural-looking, fully-functioning permanent tooth.

Crowns and bridges

If you have damaged or missing teeth then crowns and bridges may be an option for your smile makeover. A crown is a custom made tooth coloured cap that is placed over your natural tooth to offer structural protection. Bridges are rows of prosthetic teeth with a crown on either side. They are attached to the two natural teeth on either side of the gap. Both of these treatments are less invasive than dental implants, however may not last as long.

How long does a smile makeover last?

This depends on the treatment. Some of our smile makeover treatments, such as veneers, orthodontics and implants, are permanent so can last a lifetime. Teeth whitening usually lasts between one and two years, while crowns and bridges can last for many years with proper care. Our cosmetic dentists always discuss these factors with you before proceeding with treatment.
