Get instantly whiter teeth
Do you want to get whiter teeth without giving up coffee or red wine? Well, the good news is you can. With professional teeth whitening you can achieve pearly white teeth in no time. No wonder it’s become one of the most popular dental treatments worldwide.
It’s no secret that discolored teeth can negatively impact your self-esteem. Even with the best oral care habits we can still experience discoloured teeth overtime. So why not get whiter teeth and your confidence back! At Dental on York we offer two types of professional teeth whitening for you to choose from.
In-chair teeth whitening
In-chair teeth whitening allows us to take your teeth multiple shades whiter in just one session. Like with all great works of art we need to start with a clear canvas, so we begin by professionally cleaning your teeth. Then we place a rubber dam in your mouth to protect your gums from the bleaching agent. We apply a medical grade bleaching gel to your teeth and activate it with a special light. You lay there for around an hour as your teeth gradually whiten. Bring along your headphones so you can listen to some music or a podcast while you relax.
In-chair teeth whitening is the fastest whitening option. Our dentists use a high concentration of the whitening agent. We are able to take your teeth multiple shades whiter in a single appointment. Your dentist can recommend further treatments depending on your specific needs.
At-home teeth whitening
At-home teeth whitening allows you to get whiter teeth from the comfort of your own home with a professional dental quality product. You still need to get a professional clean at our dental surgery before you can commence the treatment. After we clean your teeth, we take impressions to make custom-fitted trays for your mouth. We provide you with a handy take-home kit including your trays, bleaching agent and instructions.
You simply apply the bleaching gel to your trays and wear them for around one hour per day. Most people do it in the evenings, after they have eaten and brushed their teeth. You can simply chill out on the couch and watch TV while the trays are in.
We usually recommend you continue to do this for two consecutive weeks. Treatment recommendations may vary depending on your individual circumstances. Your dentist can recommend further treatments where necessary.

Which type of teeth whitening has the best results?
Both in-chair and at-home teeth whitening can deliver great results. You can make your teeth multiple shades whiter with whatever type you choose. In-chair teeth whitening is quicker than at-home whitening and may give you better results. This is because the gel is stronger and applied professionally by your dentist. With at-home whitening you may not be able to get quite as white results, but it allows you to whiten at your own pace and in the comfort of your home.
How long do the results last?
Teeth whitening can last up to two years. The better you care for your teeth the longer it can last. To get the optimum wear you need to maintain good oral care habits. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day and eating a balanced diet free of heavily staining foods and drinks.
If you decide to whiten your teeth, make especially sure you avoid food and drink that causes staining in the first 24 hours. This is because your teeth are more susceptible to staining during that time. Your dentist will provide you with all the after-care instructions you need at your appointment.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes, teeth whitening is a non-invasive cosmetic dental treatment. At Dental on York, we use the latest technology and best materials when whitening your teeth. We make sure your gums are protected during the entire process. We also ensure you are relaxed and comfortable. We explain the entire process in detail and check every patient’s teeth before proceeding. You can be confident you are in safe hands with us.
Is it ok to have teeth whitening every now and then?
Absolutely, as long as you are not doing it more than once a year. You should always consult your dentist before whitening your teeth. They can give you advice on the health of your gums and teeth and recommend a time frame for whitening. The results of professional teeth whitening can last quite a long time, so you shouldn’t need to do it too frequently.
